Anna Conner is a Seattle based artist, choreographer and dancer. Together with her group she creates art that is honest, intimate, and speaks to the human psyche while striving to guide and empower the audience through an artistic yet sometimes unpleasant journey. Their goal is to arrive at a deeper awareness of ourselves and an awareness of the world that surrounds us. As performers their tools are their bodies, their movement is beautiful and their power lies in taking risks. Their creative process involves improvisation, collaboration, research, discussion and reflection. They are interested in showing you how they view the world. It can be a dark and heavy place.
For their upcoming project, LUNA, they teamed up with photographer April Staso who shot this magnificent set. LUNA is a world created by movement artists, Anna Conner +CO, that illuminates the individual roles we play in our societies. Are we followers or leaders? The audience gets to decide this for themselves. It’s a dark and delicately violent work that you can catch on the 21-23 of March.
LUNA has been supported in part by 4Culture and Seattle Office of Arts and Culture. The creative development of LUNA was made possible through residencies from Ponderosa Dance and Velocity Dance Center through their 2013 Creative Resident program. Excerpts of LUNA have been presented at 12 Minutes Max, BOOST Dance Festival, The Bridge Project and Chop Shop.
