This year’s Berlin Biennale for Contemporary Art is entitled, “We Don’t Need Another Hero” and runs from June 9th to September 9th in five different venues across the city. This year’s title comes from Tina Turner’s 1985 single, “We Don’t Need Another Hero”, drawing from an important time following major geopolitical shifts that influenced regime changes as well as new historical figures. Berlin Biennale intends to confront the current widespread state of our collective psychosis, reject the desire for a savior and ultimately, explore the political potential of the act of self-preservation. That’s a lot to unpack, and we hope you’re as excited as we are.
Gabi Ngcobo, Moses Serubiri, Nomaduma Rosa Masilela, Thiago de Paula Souza, and Yvette Mutumba.
