DJ RAE’s Top 5

DJ RAE proves to be one of the few in the house music scene with such a dynamic career; carving out her unique path as DJ, singer, songwriter and producer. Starting her career with Defected Records, her self-penned release ‘Can’t Stop’ in 2008 with Kings of Tomorrow became a house anthem, and Rae’s multifaceted talent lead to her fast becoming an artist in demand. DJ RAE’s USP is her incredible vocal which raises the bar throughout her sets; performing seamless live PAs of her club-land anthems like ‘Hide U’ alongside Sandy Rivera and the massive Top 20 release ‘Take Me Away’ with DJ S.K.T, whilst remaining stylishly composed as an undeniably skilled DJ, who has worked from her roots of vinyl with a passion for selection and mixing. A decade on from the classic house anthem ‘Can’t Stop’, DJ RAE and legendary producer/DJ Sandy Rivera are reunited on the powerful ‘Crazy/Trippin Part II’, released on DJ RAE’s RATED label. To celebrate the release and also DJ RAE’s busy summer in which she is one of the featured guest vocalists on the hugely successful Hacienda Classical Tour, a label showcase at Ministry of Sound, Ibiza dates, and collaborations with Kry Wolf and Vanilla Ace, DJ RAE has curated her Top 5 vocal house tracks to sink your teeth into.

Inner City – ‘Pennies From Heaven’

“One of the most influential collectives in house for me. I remember first hearing this one, it had everything that made me want to live and breathe house music. One of the classics I’ve always dropped at the right time and this year I was asked to perform it with the Hacienda Classical on tour. Full circle. Gives me goose-bumps every time.”

Everything But The Girl – ‘Missing’

“This was everywhere, a real earworm song. It got us all. I remember dropping it at Pacha Ibiza having a real moment as the sun was coming up, everyone singing it. Tracey Thorn’s vocal is mesmerising, and the lyrics really resonate. The magic Todd Terry fused into this stunning song made it a timeless player.”

True Faith – ‘Take Me Away’

“When DJ S.K.T and I reworked this song a few years back, it came so naturally, evoked emotions and felt so special. I have some crazy memories attached to the original, in the hedonistic clubbing days. It really got me. It’s one of those that you don’t hear for years, then bang – everyone’s like, wow, I know this. I love this, such a standout record, made for the dance floor.”

Moloko – ‘Sing It Back’

“Takes me back to my early and best days in Ibiza when Space Terrace was open; sun shining down, planes flying over us, people from all over the world smiling, dancing, singing along, totally loved up and lost in it. I love Roisin Murphy, her delivery is so unique, she captured me big time and inspired me as a songwriter.”

Ultra Nate – ‘Free’

“Another song I have the privilege of performing with the Hacienda Classical tour and it gets such a massive reaction. It feels more relevant now than ever in the sentiment, brings people together with such a positive message. Got big love for Ultra Nate, thanks to her for one of our defining house records that will stand the test of time for so many. ”

DJ RAE & Sandy Rivera ‘Crazy / Trippin’ Part II’ is out now on RATED. Her collaboration with Kry Wolf, ‘Let Me Try’ is also out now on Toolroom. DJ RAE is currently touring as a guest vocalist on the Hacienda Classical Tour.
