Fashionclash Festival 2017: WUETHRICHFUERST

One To Watch from Fashionclash Festival 2017! WUETHRICHFUERST is a Basel based fashionlabel founded by Karin Wüthrich and Matthias Fürst. The design duo unveiled their womenswear collection in Maastricht and we love it. “It is about the question if the «real thing» exists or not and if it exists, which importance its existence has?” they say.. read our interview below.

Name: WUETHRICHFUERST / Age: 33/34 / Hometown: Basel CH / Menswear or Womenswear: Womenswear

KALTBLUT: Does fashion makes sense?
WUETHRICHFUERST: For us it clearly makes sense. But it is always a question of the point of view if something
makes sense or not.

KALTBLUT: Hello. Welcome to KALTBLUT. Why have you decided to participate at FASHIONCLASH Festival?
WUETHRICHFUERST: We really loved the atmosphere of the festival last year so we decided to participate again which was definitely a worth-while experience.

KALTBLUT: Can you tell us something about the collection you presented at the FASHIONCLASH Festival 2017? What was your inspiration?
WUETHRICHFUERST: It is about the question if the «real thing» exists or not and if it exists, which importance its existence has? From our perspetive almost everything is a copy or an imitation of something else so the importance of an origin vanishes slowly. The collection is also about the lie or the feigning which has its very own aesthetics. Another part of the inspiration are the little everyday accidents that happens mostly unwittingly.

KALTBLUT: What kind of material did you used for the collection?
WUETHRICHFUERST: Velvet, Vinyl, Printed Silk, Printed Cotton etc.

KALTBLUT: What challenges did you face during the design process?
WUETHRICHFUERST: The most challenging but also the most pleasant part is the transformation of an idea into
a design. There are hundreds of possible translations so it is always challenging to find the
most interesting one.

KALTBLUT: How would you describe yourself and your work?
WUETHRICHFUERST: Restless, curious, humorous, questioning, a little bit contradictory.

KALTBLUT: What would you say that is the biggest influence to your design process?
WUETHRICHFUERST: The constant dialogue of working as a team. Both of us have different ideas, interests and skills. Bringing them together is the essential influence to our work.

KALTBLUT: If you had not become a fashion designer, what would you do instead?
Karin: It is too abstract for me to imagine another profession.
Matthias: In my view the word «designer» is a broadly defined term so definitely something else relevant to design.

KALTBLUT: Who’s your dream client?
WUETHRICHFUERST: It would be cool to see Annie Clark wearing our clothes.

KALTBLUT: What was the first item you have ever designed? And who was the lucky one to get it?
WUETHRICHFUERST: The first items we developed together where the garments of Karin’s BA diploma collection and most of them are still in our archive.

KALTBLUT: What can we expect from you in near future?
WUETHRICHFUERST: Hopefully a lot more! In September, a bunch of further items of our Series No. 2 (which we’ve shown at Fashionclash Festival) will be available at our online store and in February we will present the Series No. 3.

KALTBLUT: Where can we buy your fashion?
WUETHRICHFUERST: At our onlines-store www.wuethrichfuerst.com/shop and in a couple of stores in Switzerland.
