Salvatore Pirina is a photographer who lives and works in Milan. He represent the world through his inner world, poised between reality and illusion. Melancholie(mit Monstern) are two collage artists (Nicola and Riccardo), based in Milan. Through paper collages they represent the hidden beauty of melancholy. Together they produced their own Wunderkammer, a video projection of collages on bodies project: Naturalia/Artificialia.

KALTBLUT:  Where do you get your ideas from?

Salvatore and MmM: We are both friends and artists, using different techniques and we were trying to find a way to work together. We found in video projection the best way to merge our visions.

KALTBLUT: How easy is it to work together?

Salvatore and MmM: As we are being friends for a long time, it has been natural and inspiring to work together. We have visions, ideals and suggestions in common.

KALTBLUT: Can you tell us a little bit about the projections you use?

Salvatore and MmM: We set up a sort of darkroom with a black background and the only light  coming from the projector connected to a pc displaying collage images. Working in the dark and seeing how bodies became strange creatures when illuminated by the images, gave us the perception of our personal Wunderkammer.

KALTBLUT: Are you working on something right now?

Salvatore and MmM: We are going to publish a book about this work: Naturalia/Artificialia and we are also planning to set an exhibition here in Milan.
