Berlin Fashion Week! Berlin based jewelry label PERLENSÄUE unveiled the new Spring/Summer collection for 2017 during the KALTBLUT vs Oliver Rath Fashion Installation at Rath Factory. I had a little chat with the designer behind the brand about her new collection. Photos by Sebastian Pollin.

Hello. Welcome to KALTBLUT. Why have you decided to participate at The KALTBLUT SS17 Installation?
N+J: We love KALTBLUT Magazine. Thats it.
Can you tell us something about the collection you presented?
N+J: Nope, except it looks fabulous and you should buy it!
What was your inspiration?
N+J: Hard to tell that afterwards. A crazy mixture of people, parties, movies and blaces. But especially the gladiators from the Rome Epoque and the fashion, in movies like “The 5’th element“ inspired us a lot.
What kind of material did you use for the collection?
N+J: For our current collection we intentionally used vegan materials, such as skin friendly rubber, stainless steel, siver etc.
What challenges did you face during the design process?
N+J: Mostly we do not draw any sketches of our creations in advance. We just design from our imagination. Sometimes this turns quite difficult and dissapointing as the pieces do not turn out as they should.
How would you describe your self and your work?
N+J: Oh it is so difficult to talk about yourself and especially about your own creations, so we don’t even dare to.
Tell us about your journey that led you to this point.
Nina: As a kid from a former Soviet Union I had to create my own puppets with their own outfits. That’s where my first impulses for fashion and design came from. So I guess it was just my creative nature that led me finally to become a designer. Jacob: Actually I never had thought about being a Designer. It was quite a coincidence that I ended up doing that kind of jewelry.
What would you say this is the biggest influence to your design process?
N+J: Our endless energy to create something new, which is not always easy to handle.
If you had not become a fashion designer, what would you do instead?
Nina: Save the turtles at the beach of Costa Rica. Jacob: I guess I would do something in the technology sector.
Who’s your dream client?
N+J: Miley Cyrus, Die Antwoord & FKA Twigs.
What was the first item you have ever designed? And who was the lucky one to get it?
N+J: It was a huge pearl collar / harness. After it was used for several projects, we decided to keep it, it’s a unique piece and a good reminder of our first days.
What can we expect from you in near future?
N+J: PERLENSÄUE will rule the world

N+J: We are available in 3 places in Berlin: Rath Gallery / Ecolé Boutique & Steigenberger Hotel. You can also find some pieces in Frankfurt at shop 13. And we are working on our online shop at the moment, so you can get our entire collection online very soon.
