Press Play: Damon Eliza Palermo – ‘Zoa Peak’

After a great party, a meditative walk home. The grey morning. Fog, birds, a welcome silence after the last kick drum. The music Damon Eliza Palermo makes under his birth name is for these contemplative moments, to reflect while walking, at home, or in a solitary dance floor zone. This meditative yen has always coursed through Palermo’s music. It was there in his dubby, tom-heavy drumming for Mi Ami, and in the propulsive kraut-house exuberance of his early Magic Touch singles for 100% Silk, but now, other elements fall by the wayside in a search for clarity. ‘Zoa Peak’ is taken from Palermo’s next EP, Beacon Of Maracaibo, out on Johnkôôl Records in January. The video is a smooth, psychedelic, ride, shot in first-person down a breathtaking snowy ski slope.

Older and (hopefully) wiser, Palermo’s interested in making sense of his peripatetic existence through naturalistic loops and great swaths of sound. Damon trawls through the meditative side of house on his monthly NTS show, Inner Realm, along with the ambient and new age masters whose work he’s avidly studied. He too, succeeds in making music to get lost in, sound that acts calming salve as you float in and out of consciousness and towards your bliss.

Beacon Of Maracaibo is out January 12th, 2018 on Johnkôôl Records
