Rita Afonso Spring / Summer 2018 – THE HANGED MAN

#OneToWatch from Sangue Novo at ModaLisboa and WINNER OF THE FEETING ROOM AWARD. We are in LOVE with Rita Afonso´s SS18 collection: THE HANGED MAN. Nothing is impossible! The consequence of an overstimulated society is an excess of positivity. Our societies makes us believe that “yes we can”, all the time. We live in a “multitask” word that rules society and makes us forget about contemplation. The hanged man is the XII tarot card, that reminds us of the importance of the contemplation. Althoug he is making an effort to be upside-down, it is believed that he is hanging on the tree of his own will, with a meditation mood on his face seeing with a pleasant effort the world upside down. It is within the exhaustion of this effort that his body finds protection from the production oriented and hiper stimulated society we live in.

The collection “o dependurado” is an ode to boredom, like Walter Benjamin as put it: “Boredom is the dre am bird that hatches the egg of experience.” That boredom that he believes to be vital for the spirit to rest. instagram.com/ritaafonsooficial
