Sebastianele

Sebastián Echavarría (Sebastianele) is a visual artist and fashion photographer based in Medellín, Colombia. His work, always in analog format, is nostalgic and modern at the same time, desaturated and honest. From the first moment he started shooting, all he was interested in was connecting with the world around him and keeping the moment, and he still sticks to that.

KALTBLUT: How did you pick up photography?

Sebastián: It was a few years ago, when I began photographing my close friends. In photography I found the way with which I can connect with the world, i’m a very shy person and thanks to photography i can express myself better. Each time that I take a portrait I try to get full concentration to get some particular thing that I perceive that moment.

KALTBLUT: Why do you choose to shoot analogue?

Sebastián: Because you must think more before shooting, in most cases the film only gives you 36 possibilities of capture, also shooting analogue is a whole ritual, from the moment in which I put the film on the reel until I have the photographic processing; it’s so cool when you are amazed with the result. It’s an aesthetic experience.

KALTBLUT: What is your favorite picture you have ever taken?

Sebastián: This is very weird, I remember last weekend when I was at my last session and when it ended, I said to the model that the last photo was my fav that I have ever taken, but it was just a feeling of excitement. I think that I still haven’t achieved taking this photo.

KALTBLUT: What would you be if you werent a photographer?

Sebastián: I would be a florist.

KALTBLUT: What is your dream project to work on?

Sebastián: I have two, to get a book with the photos of this personal project “The Void” and to work for some exclusive project for a big magazine, like Kaltblut would be cool.
