Shatnez Story – ELIRAN NARGASSI

A KALTBLUT exclusive. According to the Jewish biblical law, it is prohibited for an individual to wear Shatnez, which is a garment made of both wool and linen fabrics. The law forbids the interbreeding of different species of animals, and the planting together of different kinds of seeds, collectively known as Kilayim – (Hebrew for Hybrid). This piece was made especially by Eliran Nargassi for Cutting Edges, an exhibition showcasing contemporary Israeli work by designers of different creative fields. Photography by Eran Evan. Model is Yochai Matos
The printed fabric, depicting the stone typically used in Jerusalem architecture, was originally created by Nargassi for his Spring-Summer 2014 Colllection, dealing with the cultural tenstion between The 2 main cities – the cultural epicenter that is Tel Aviv contrasting Jerusalem’s Sanctity & historical importance . Yet, the garment is made from linen and wool, leaving it “Un-Kosher” for wearing by jews. The story was shot in Tel Aviv, at the shore of the Mediterranean sea.
