Sishir Bommakanti: The Vanity Book

Sishir Bommakanti is a visual storyteller.  He made this incredible Vanity Book and we are in love with it. Sishir was born in India and graduated from Ringling College of Art and Design in 2012. His work is an exploration in media, inspired by Sci-fi, vintage photographs and study of philosophy amongst others. The process of creation is as important as the ideation behind it.

” The intent of this project is to understand the process of drawing through sketching, the process of experimentation through mixed media, and the process of design through arrangement of elements. I started this sketchbook in February of 2013 and spent about ten months finishing it. In those ten months, I learned an immense amount about drawing and design.

The term Vanity Book comes from my mentor, Sterling Hundley, who encourages his students to keep a variety of sketchbooks. The Vanity Book would give one the freedom to experiment, enjoy and liberate themselves from outside critique. The objective of the book is purely for exploration.
The content in this book ranges from old photographs, life drawing, video screencaps and from imagination.”
