Top 5 Videos Of The Week

Editors pick: Nicola. It’s nearing the end of November, time to get warm and catch up with our Top 5 Videos of the Week for you to enjoy! This week we’re featuring !!! (Chk Chk Chk), POLIÇA, Porches, Naytronix & Aurora.

!!! (Chk Chk Chk) – Ooo

The ChkChkChk boys are back with their super Sci-fi-Star Wars infused video for ‘Ooo’, directed by Adult Swim’s Casper Kelly. The melancholy love tale shows just how dating issues really are universal. Casper speaks of the video, “‘Ooo’ started from a feeling of a relationship teetering on the edge of breaking up or going to the next level, combined with an instrumental section in the middle with echoey sounds that evoked photon torpedoes in science fiction battles. I decided to combine the two. I also liked the idea of combining the feeling of the Star Wars cantina bar with a college mixer. I tried to make it not too story oriented but I bit more abstract – I wanted a lot of the details of what happened between the Captain and the green woman implied or submerged. Lastly, I love combining repeating visual movements with the repetition in the wonderful chorus – hence the ship getting rocked by torpedoes and people scrambling in time with the beat. It was such a thrill to shoot. I wish I could live in the world of this video.”

POLIÇA – Lime Habit

Anything that comes from this band is pure gold, and this video is only proof of that. Lead singer Channy speaks of the single, “These lyrics are most diary like of any of the other songs on United Crushers. It’s all observations on my mode of operation and how it affects where I go. I’m speaking to myself mostly; “never in the corner is the luck of life . . . so get out of the corner and . . . you see up higher but you’re never in style.” Their new album, ‘United Crushers’, is expected March 2016.

Porches – Hour

This video is really simplistic but contains a beautiful blue and pink tinge throughout, with a little added VHS style in between scenes. Documenting singer Aaron Maine and also featuring an appearance by Maine’s collaborator and partner Greta Kline (aka Frankie Cosmos), the early neon light illuminates the couple as a peaceful night drive through the suburbs turns into something a little more darker.

Naytronix – Back In Time

From the solo project of tUnE-yArDs’ Nate Brenner, the video for ‘Back In Time’ takes a nostalgic trip down memory lane. Directed by Jeffrey A Tang, the video is a beautifully shot play on Nate’s sentimental lyrics and acts as a perfect ode to the title of the track. It’s a retrospective look at a life well-lived, soundtracked by seductive psych soul sounds of Naytronix. As well as this, legendary Beastie Boys colloborator ‘Money Mark’, who has previously worked with the likes of Beck, Karen O, Red Hot Chilli Peppers & William Onyeabor, has put his own funk-laden twist on the original, with this new remix.

Aurora – Half The World Away

Okay, well I had to sneak a festive song in sooner or later. The beautiful Oasis cover by the young Norwegian Aurora is currently accompanying a John Lewis Christmas advertisement in the UK. Aurora was almost unknown a year ago, but since then, her music has been played at festivals, in front of Norwegian Queen Sonja, played on the radio for countless listeners in both Norway and overseas and even Katy Perry is one of her biggest fans! Her beautiful EP ‘Running With The Wolves’ is out now too.
