After gaining attention with hypnotic debut single ‘Yo Mae Leh’, anonymous London based solo artist Invisible Minds collaborates with vocalist Howard Hobbs on second single ‘The Cut Girl’. Slinking between chopped samples and twinkling xylophone beats, Hobbs’ vocals trickle over downtempo melodies as he recalls a painful encounter with an ex-lover.
The Cut Girl, in contrast to my previous release Yo Mae Leh, is a much more somber and personal song. Whilst Yo Mae Leh had a big communal and inviting feel, The Cut Girl is definitely purposefully hitting on the opposite side of the spectrum to create a much moodier appeal.
Capturing a unique sound and heading into 2018 with plenty of momentum Invisible Minds is an act to pay close attention to over the next 12 months.
