After previously releasing work on JD Twitch’s Glasgow label Optimo Music, the London electronic duo Shift Work debut on fabric’s Houndstooth with ‘Document II’ – an EP developed from live jams on outboard analogue gear. Today we host their intense visual installment for ‘Abandoned Hands’, the first track from the EP – a lean and raw sound with an angular bassline and indecipherable vox. Calling on myriad influences, Shift Work- the pair in question- find pleasure in curveballs. Following up their debut EP on Optimo Music, the duo deliver Document II- difficult to define, yet easy to fall for the package’s ability to captivate ears and command feet. Music for systems that don’t forget details, or that fundamental low end. Shift Work invited remixes from their associates, and the results are impressive, with DVA Damas dialling down the tempo and stripping back ‘Abandoned Hands’ further still, whilst Factory Floor return to remix duty on Houndstooth with a typically subtle yet infectious building take on ‘SBFM’.
