THE SECRET GARDEN
August 2012 – Copenhagen Fashion week. Danish fashion label WACKERHAUS introduced the new S/S collection for 2013. WACKERHAUS SS13 explores the bridges between the seductively feminine, preppy stern attires and comfortable elegance, suggesting a powerfully graphic, refined and cultivated wearable collection. Read here the review by our friend Marlo Saalmink.
A leafy path stretched alongside the summery flowerbeds, stillness of the mind, the sun has set, allowing for the sultry park to respire in silence. Closing time allows for illusive nightly encounters inside the fence, underneath the starry skies and onto the moonlit dew covered floral fields.
Tiptoeing silhouettes move alongside the golden horizon, if one examines closer, they seem to strut along as secretive couples. The breezy wind faintly brushes along their bare shoulders, seduction abreast, as they are quietly observed by curious onlookers.
It is here where the SS13 collection by WACKERHAUS sets off, around the stroke of a summery midnight, during a secretive outside gathering. The tall silhouettes have been maintained relaxed, with a clean focus on tailoring, thus enabling us to dress up elegantly. Leisurely crafted garments are presented together with loosely fitted jackets and a selection of structured bottoms. The collection suggests an inventive take on opulent evening wear, effortlessly fitted for our day-to-day. Classic evening dresses are paired with graphic blends and asymmetric loosely draped garments, casually enveloping the body, in order to allow for textural interaction.
The muted colour palette, expressive in its nature, featuring light pistachio greens, powdered pinks, warm golden tones, silvers, whites and deep blacks, gives us room for eclectic reflection. The combination of colours and minute precise detailing, allow us to look beyond the surface.
Hence, the more constructed pieces, allow for flirtatious transparent openings, playful layering and constructed appliques. Casual, yet leisurely chic, the WACKERHAUS spring summer 13 collection, plays with the contrast between formal wear and our daily dress-up. The carefully selected materials further underline this longing for subtle contrasts, ranging from combined lush jerseys, to poplin cottons, fused with washed silks, fine lace and sleek light wool.
