The message is clear, that there is growing demand for explicit sex that empowers individuals to make their own decisions and choices free of social stigma. While filmmakers have used the cinema to explore the subject of sex for many decades, the last few years have seen a breakthrough in terms of explicitness. Catherine Breillat’s ROMANCE, Virginie Despentes’s BAISE-MOI, Michael Winterbottom’s 9 SONGS, Todd Verow’s ANONYMOUS and Patrice Chereau’s INTIMACY are a few of many films in which serious art-house filmmakers have pushed the boundaries of what can be shown as well as filmmakers like Bruce LaBruce, Kris Kramski, Maria Beatty and Wash Westmoreland have pushed the boundaries in Pornoland to explore narrative structures within a commercial porn setting.

But not only in feature movies new trends are visible, also documentary films deal more and more with human sexuality and all its facets.

Is there still a paradox existing where we are encouraged to express ourselves freely, except when it comes to sex? The PornFilmFestival Berlin will challenge this paradox, giving permission to revel in the experience of clever, from all over the World, sexual fantasy.

The heritage of the 70s LAST TANGO IN PARIS, DEEP THROAT, EMMANUELLE und Oswalt Kolle resonates with us still today yet the cultural landscape has not shifted significantly in forty years. Still we do remember the PorNo campaign by our beloved Alice Schwarzer and Andrea Dworkin, but there is an appetite for accessible erotica and sexual explicit images which is no longer limited to the top shelf.

It’s about time that pornography becomes actually stimulating, actually erotic and actually sexy, rather than enjoyable and erotic only in theory, unwatchable in reality. The filmmakers, photographers and artists involved in pornberlin have been exploring sex through their work for years and the fact that they have been invited to be with pornberlin gives you the experience to participate in a universe that seems so fabulously, tantalizingly exciting.

PornFilmFestival Berlin will showcase the most innovative, risk-taking visionaries from film, photography, performance, music, the art scene, pornoland and even porn karaoke to challenge the genre of erotic film. All works shown form a collection of uncensored responses to the social and aesthetic questions of how we represent ourselves as sexual beings. The curation of diverse talent ensures a wide spectrum of interests and points of view.

PornFilmFestival Berlin seeks to harness these developing attitudes and trends by inviting artists, photographers and filmmakers whose work invokes sex, curiosity, desire, fantasy and satisfaction in it‘s own right. So be part of this adventure and join the PornFilmFestival Berlin!

The Porn Film Festival Berlin will take place from October 22nd through 26th 2014 in Cinema  Moviemento in its 9th edition.

First announcements on the program of Porn Film Festival Berlin 2014!

They makers say: “Our festival this year will open with R 100 by Matsumoto Hitoshi, an absurd odyssey of a Japanese middle-class employee into the world of BDSM. Closing Night film will be THE FOXY MERKINS by Madeleine Olnek, which premiered in Sundance. Homeless Margaret meets the street-smart Jo, who tries to teach Margaret how to make ends meet with sex work in the boiling pot Manhatten. Lisa Hass and Jackie Monahan are acting with a great sense of humour and self-mockery. As every year the main program contains a wide variety of feature, documentary and experimental films and we are  very proud that more than half of the movies are made by women with a focus of films from Australia:

Michelle Flynn’s MOMENTUM has its World premiere in Berlin as well as Gala Vanting’s BDSM docu LOVE HARD, Morgana’s A CALL FOR HELP and THE FANTASY PROJECT by Ms. Naughty. This view on feminist porn film making from Down Under is completed by several shorts by and with Zahra Stardust. All mentioned directors will be our guests and present their work to the audience themselves.

MOMENTUM

Another novelty is THE BLACK WIDOW by the Grand Dame of lesbian fantasy-noir films Maria Beatty, who once again proves her excellence in creating mysterious female SM-settings. FUCKING MYSTIC by Courtney Trouble – also a World premiere – abducts us to the trans*gender community of San Francisco, while SHUTTER – the brand new movie by Goodyn Green – shows us queer sex in Berlin.

S(H)E COMES

Our good friend and festival guest since the very beginnig Petra Joy celebrates with us her 10th anniversary of female porn making and presents her recent movie S(H)E COMES, starring Wolf Hudson and Jiz Lee, who also will attend the festival. THE SUBMISSION OF EMMA MARX by Jacky St. James caused quite a hassle in the mainstream porn industry and XCONFESSIONS by Barcelona based Erika Lust shows us 9 very different sex fantasies.

THE SUBMISSION OF EMMA MARX

The German feature movie TOP GIRL by Tatjana Turanskyj tells about the day-to-day struggle of a sex worker.
As if coming-of-age itself wasn’t complicated enough, but doing so whilst your mother has their F-to-M*transition truly doesn’t make things easier: 52 TUESDAYS by Australian director Sophie Hyde was the audience hit at the International Berlin Film Festival.

We are also happy about the presentation of Barcelona’s queer-feminist sex-positive festival MUESTRA MARRANA.

This years documentaries present a broad spectrum on human sexuality: MAX UND DIE ANDEREN by Richard Rossmann portrays a Berlin leather daddy and his Ukranian lover; VULVA 3.0 by Claudia Richarz and Ulrike Zimmermann dares a look at the female genital between taboo and tuning; BODY OF GOD by Jouni Hokkanen reflects the possibilities of body modification and LOVE HOTEL by Phil Cox und Hikaru Toda leads us into the hilarious world of Japanese honeymoon hotels – very popular in Japan even when you’re not married!

VULVA 3.0

We introduce you to the trendy gay porn label CockyBoys Studio, which will present some of their movies as well as performers.

THE BANKER

DEATH DRIVE is an ambitious mystical feature film by Dark Alley Media and in collaboration with PinkTV France we present a retrospective of the early work of French gay porn-legend Jean Daniel Cadinot flanked by a masterclass about his influence on French gay porn nowadays by Cadinot-expert Cyrille Marie.

JEAN DANIEL CADINOT

As usual we will have lots of guests of whom I want to point out the Filmmakers in Focus Antonio da Silva, Shine Louise Houston, Ms. Naughty, Jan Soldat and the gorgeous Joanna Angel, who presents another festival highlight – her horror splatter porn parody of WALKING DEAD.

The festival program will be complemented by 8 programs with 77 short movies from over 20 different countries, also audio plays, reflections on Lars von Trier’s NYMPH()MANIAC and our highly favoured work shops circling around sex and dance, tentacles, porn-watching and Bondage.

Of course there also will be lots of partying at Ficken 3000, Loftus Hall and Südblock!”
