Born in Paris and now a Berliner by choice, Aime Simone hit a nerve with many people in the summer of 2020 with his song “In This Dark Time” from his solo debut “Say Yes, Say No”. With his velvety timbre, he sings about dark times that he wants to leave behind. Poignant, sombre lines that are twisted a little towards the light by the uplifting beat and beautiful melody. In the first summer of the pandemic, when public life cautiously dared to go back out into the air for a few weeks, the song was well received and has collected over five million streams on Spotify alone to date. The singer and songwriter, who also hovered over the catwalk as a model for Hedi Slimane, deals more with private obscurities in his songs – which were once the decisive factor in tackling his music career. For example at a formative concert in Paris. Aime was in a clinic at the time as he was being treated for post-traumatic stress disorder and anorexia. He was given an exit to the Pete Doherty concert. That night, Aime Simone Doherty threw a notebook of poetry onto the stage, almost hitting him in the head. The Libertines singer brought Aime on stage, gave him a guitar and allowed him to perform a song. The fact that it was well received by the Doherty audience gave Aime the strength to keep going.
Meanwhile, Aime Simone is working on new material and has released the longingly electronic “NOT WHAT YOU WANTED” alongside an atmospheric Harry Styles cover of “As It Was”. Already last year “Answer The Night” came out, which brings together folky guitars with a dark beat and Aime Simone’s unique voice.
