Anarchy of Gender – Queer portraits by Mike D’Hondt, an exhibition at Projektraum 145
For the closing of the Month of Photography in Berlin, Projektraum 145 is pleased to present the portrait project of Mike D’hondt from the 25th October till the 31st October in their gallery space. Mike D’hondt, a self trained -analogue- photographer, started his ongoing portrait series three years ago. He got attracted by the multitude of characters he saw in the Berlin queer nightlife and by the way these communities redefine gender or rather un-define it, with an absolute fluidity and freedom from any preconceived ideas about gender as a result.
In the process of making the portraits he found his queer sitters’ stories most appealing, their ways of getting on with life and the ideals they go for. Their struggles find compassion in his pictures. His portraits are intimate and poetic, but at the same time also dark and disturbing, thus resulting in powerful images.
“Je poetischer, desto wahrer.”
