KALTBLUT: Congratulations to the release of the new song OPIUM! How would you describe the process of writing and producing this record?
B.O.X.E.R.: The Song Opium came out easily out of the flow but the complete album was hard work and took some time. Or maybe years. Some of the songs became a little bit like friends over time and releasing them now feels kind of showing an inner part to the world.
KALTBLUT: What would you want people to walk away with after listening to this record?
B.O.X.E.R.: We don’t want them thinking after listening to our songs, we want them to feel. Taking them on a journey in our world.
KALTBLUT: What can we expect from your upcoming new album “OPIUM”? And when will it be out?
B.O.X.E.R.: It’s not ment to fit in genres or being in the charts. We did what we liked and stayed loyal to our original boxer sound. It will be released in March this Year. Exciting.
KALTBLUT: How would you describe the B.O.X.E.R. sound?
B.O.X.E.R.: It’s a combination of electronic and organic sounds. B.O.X.E.R. is a mix of our different musical backgrounds – Electro-Indie-Pop.
KALTBLUT: Tell us about your roots. How did you get your start musically?
B.O.X.E.R.: Anna-Maria: I started my musical career at a very young age. Mostly autodidactic and on my own for the biggest part. I was part of different projects here and there, working with different people to find my own style. Mostly I was into soul.
I Was always looking for the right guys to play in a band with. Being with boxer has changed a lot. We are a great team. Best thing to share those emotional moments on stage while performing!
Jan Ole: I started playing drums at the age of seven. I played in my first band in the age of twelve and never stopped since that time. First I was big Red Hot Chili Peppers fan. Later I was more interested in funk and fusion and studied music. Then I discovered electronic music what opened a whole new world for me. Playing music means a lot to me.Being on stage with B.O.X.E.R. is the moment when everything becomes one.
KALTBLUT: You guys have been a part of the fashion scene for a long time. You both are working as models. Where did you guys meet?
B.O.X.E.R.: Actually we met at a party on Berlin Fashion Week. It’s a fact that music and fashion goes together quite well. It’s great to be part of both worlds and combining it at the end. Having a model job during the day and rocking the stage in the night – Great!
KALTBLUT: To be a part of a duo, you need to be able to feed off each other’s energy. How would you describe yours?
B.O.X.E.R.: We have a pretty good instinct what the other one is thinking and feeling in certain situations and we complement each other pretty well. We experienced lots of crazy stuff being on tour together and traveled to different countries like India or Russia for example where we just shot the video for our single OPIUM. Experiences like this made us strong as a team and also as friends.
KALTBLUT: What is the best impact you could hope to achieve with your music?
B.O.X.E.R.: We want them to get totally lost, forget everything going on around them and make love to each other!
KALTBLUT: How do you bring your music into a live performance? What is your typical stage set-up? And where can we see you performing next?
B.O.X.E.R.: Mostly it’s a drum set, a vocal mic, a computer and some synthesizers but we love to invite friends to play with us on our concerts. Big band feeling. sometimes we have a complete brass section, a percussionist, a guitarist or a piano-player with us on stage. Music is about communication.
KALTBLUT: Where did you find your early musical influences, and which of them do you feel have defined and shaped you as an artist up to this point?
B.O.X.E.R.: Music has always been the pulling force for both of us. We spend a lot of time listening to music or going to concerts. We collect influences everywhere!
KALTBLUT: Did music play a big role in growing up?
B.O.X.E.R.: Yes, of course. Playing in a band or performing an stage is a unique experience that can give a lot in that crazy time of insecurity!
KALTBLUT: Anna – Maria you have joined the new season of The Voice Of Germany this year. Why that? And how was your experience doing a casting show like that?
B.O.X.E.R.: It was a great opportunity to present B.O.X.E.R. to a huge audience. A glance into a totally different part of the world of media for sure.
KALTBLUT: Let´s talk about fashion! I love the editorial we are showing here. Can you both tell us your way into the fashion world? How were you discovered?
B.O.X.E.R.: We were discovered walking the streets not thinking about fashion at all. Becoming part of that world was interesting for both of us. performing on stage and doing music is a big difference and gives us more than anything else.
KALTBLUT: What has been the high light to you career so far?
B.O.X.E.R.: Playing our first huge B.O.X.E.R. concert together with lots of big musicians, our friends, on stage was an awesome feeling. One of these moments when hard work finally pays of!
KALTBLUT: What item of clothing could you not live without?
B.O.X.E.R.: B.O.X.E.R. shorts.
KALTBLUT: Fashion or music? Where do you see your future?
B.O.X.E.R.: Music! (Maybe we will break out into the fashion world occasionally, But definitely music!)
KALTBLUT: Thanks for your time. I can not wait to see you both on the runway and listen to your upcoming album then.
B.O.X.E.R.: Thanks for the interview! We’ll see u in the audience in the first row!
