Backstage at SELF MADE by Gianfranco Villegas S/S19
Self Made is a project born from Gianfranco Villegas, a young Filipino Italian designer. The name of the brand originates from the designer’s turbulent childhood growing up in Florence. The latest SS19 Fashion Show is inspired by the 90’s yibe of L.A. West Coast retro vibes, with oversized t-shirts, bermudas and denim suits, mixed with military clothing, revisiting the authentic emblematic garments of Californian street culture of the past.
This lead Self Made to twist the volumes of classic tracksuit of historical brand Sergio Tacchini, with whom they realised a capsule collection, which integrates with the main summer collection giving life to a synergy with a strong Hip-Hop imprint.
This 90’s imaginary made of colorful prints and embroidered patches combines with the Philippine origins of the designer. These origins are translated through a symbology made of prayerful men and tropical landscapes typical of the Philippine islands, hand embroidered on t-shirts, shirts and souvenir jackets.
The writing is then traced and enriched with embroidery, giving uniqueness and craftsmanship to the garment. Indelible emotions like scars, an introspective concept that this year the designer will propose through artistic performances around the world.
