Save the date Berlin: HEROINES OF SOUND FESTIVAL 2018! December 06th till 08th 2018 at HAU 2 / HEBBEL AM UFER. In concerts, performances, films and panel discussions, the Heroines of Sound Festival turns the spotlight on early and current hero*ines of electronic sound. This year’s focus is on American film pioneer Mary Ellen Bute. Her animated abstract short films, which are based on musical arrangement principles, were described by Bute as “Seeing Sound”. The festival’s specially commissioned works include new compositions for three of these films. In addition to this, the festival’s focus area Visible Music presents the premiere of Steffi Weismann’s performance Generation S, alongside Wilde & Hülcker’s commissioned work MftT#3a. Performances by Marta Zapparoli, Paula Schopf, Jessica Ekomane, Fågelle and Claudia Robles-Angel provide insights into the broad spectrum of live electronic performances that treat light and video as musical material as well. Other highlights include the appearance of legendary Berlin musician Gudrun Gut and the concert of the Ensemble KNM Berlin with two German premieres by internationally renowned composers Katharina Rosenberger and Jessie Marino.

SOUND AND FILM BAR
In the HAU foyer, festival visitors can look forward to an exhibition with film portraits and a sound bar. Open daily from 6pm, the bar will offer a selection curated by the artists and the festival team. The Heroines of Sound Selection contains more than 120 titles, the musical spectrum of the audio pieces ranging from musique concrète tape music and remixes to sound art.
