Berlin! 31.12.18 – The Ballery invites you to the opening of ‘Firecracker’ by Jan Quirin Maschinski

A photography exhibition and installation! Jan Quirin Maschinski lives through the traumatic events of Friday, 01.01.1993. At the young age of 9 a firecracker exploded in front of his right eye, eventually blinding him for the rest of his life. This drastic event is the point of departure for his work, where he tells his story in symbolic and metaphorical pictures which process the traumatic events he lived through throughout his childhood.

Jan Quirin Maschinski – Firecracker Badluck

Jan Q. Maschinski was born 1983 in Dortmund, North Rhine-Westphalia. He graduated from the University of Applied Science in Bielefeld with a Bachelor of Arts in Photography in 2014 and with a Master of Arts in 2017.

The main subject of his work has been the displaying of inner conditions on the outter body. In his pictures, he deals with mental and or psychical experiences. His works are in municipal archives and private collections.

The Ballery is a gallery and independent project space in the neighborhood of Schöneberg in Berlin. Since opening in 2014, it has aimed to present a balanced cross section of society in a dynamic format that picks up a variety of artistic approaches.

The Ballery places a strong focus on presenting perspectives that support diversity and equality within the community. –

Opening Hours: Wednesday to Friday, 3pm to 8pm / Saturday, 1pm to 6pm
