Caribou’s new album ‘Our Love’ on repeat! The long awaited album after ‘Swim’ came out back in 2010, Daniel Snaith has been busy tweaking his dreamy EDM beats to create the spell-binding ten tracked album, ‘Our Love’ – and we’ve been streaming it on repeat!
With so many influences and a bold array of percussion and clever constructions, each track pulls you deeper and deeper into Dan’s crazed and intense imagination. Getting set to fill floors far and wide as he sets off on an immense tour over the next couple of months make sure to catch his life set as it passes through your city.
The soundtrack of my summer and absolute highlight of Primavera Sound 2010 – a brilliant year for some of the best shoegazing, beachy beats. The few high pitched twangs of ‘Odessa’ still take me back to a hazy, hot evening, swaying in a crowd between the local Catalans and wobbly Brits abroad.
Bouncing in with ‘Can’t Do Without You’, the catchy melody and echoed vocals are similar to that of ‘Odessa’ – and that’s not a bad thing in the slightest. Poppy and airy, it’s that song that you’ll gladly overplay for at least a couple of weeks. A warm, deep housey embrace from the start – it’s a good sign.
‘Julia Brightly’ feels like an almost prelude of Dan’s huge Ibiza track ‘Sun’, buzzing in and out of a dubstep rhythm. ‘All I ever need’ vocally verges on Jai Paul’s ‘Jasmine’ with a pounding early UK garage beat, followed by an absolute 80s synth-soaked treat, the track ‘Our Love’ has clear influences from Inner City’s ‘Good Life’.
Finalising with ‘Your love will set you free’, we’ve reached the end of Dan’s emotional and frenzied journey in an almost euphoric state. Stuffed full of chopped up lyrics, loops, layered fuzzy synths and some really well placed thumps, ‘Our Love’ is a passionate sixth studio album from this talented Canadian; so put that Glühwein down, and let ‘Our Love’ warm your cockles on those rather cold and gloomy winter evenings – you’ll save yourself a few euro, not to mention a raging hangover.
