Fotografiska Berlin – the new museum for photography – proudly announces Fotografiska Days: a three-day event program under the main topic “CULTURAL FABRIC — Rereading the Relationship Between Art and Fashion Practices.”

Before opening its flagship museum space, slated for the second half of 2023, Fotografiska Berlin is focusing on an inclusive pre-opening program, the goal of which is to cross-connect the city’s various creative industries. Taking place at Berlin’s Atelier Gardens, Fotografiska Days will feature a weekend-long group show, panel discussions, workshops, portfolio reviews, film screenings, and more.

The main topic of the event, CULTURAL FABRIC — Rereading the Relationship Between Art and FashionPractices, aims to examine the power of visual language as it relates to art and fashion, by rereading the creative and subversive potential of diverse image and brand-making strategies. Fotografiska Berlin wants to address the instability of images in different media, alongside the emancipatory potential of their consumption and interpretation. Part of EMOP—the European Month of Photography, the event program is dedicated to proposing new ideas and fostering essential dialogues in the field of contemporary visual culture.

Unfolding across three days (March 23 – 25), the event will consist of four program units: exhibition, conference, education, and entertainment. The exhibition invites seven artists to explore the program’s main theme in a group show at Atelier Gardens, curated by Marina Paulenka (Director of Exhibitions at Fotografiska Berlin) and Thomas Schäfer (Exhibition Manager at Fotografiska Berlin), in collaboration with Lea Vene (curator and fashion theoretician).

The conference (March 24 – 25) will feature a series of panel discussions, elaborating on the main theme by diving deeper into its subcategories with the help of experts, moderators, and speakers from the broad field of contemporary visual production. The educational program presents an expert-led workshop on contemporary photography, portfolio reviews with industry professionals and more, aiming to provide beneficial and enriching moments to the local cultural scene and its protagonists. Finally, the entertainment formats will be provided in the form of film screenings, locally organized events, and a closing party.
