#Lookbook – MADE IN JAPAN is a creative interpretation of the Fred Perry archive. Iconic designs, re-engineered. Constructed in Fukui’s Hit Industry factory, the Japan-made collection fuses traditional Japanese techniques with innovative new technology. Their company motto of ‘Superior-quality products and care in every stitch’ has remained a constant throughout the factory’s 60 year lifespan. www.fredperry.com
Built on a strict matt-black palette, all pieces in the capsule collection are created in a spongy sports tricot fabric. Soft to touch, the pieces are oversized, yet retain their boxy shape due to the nature of the fabric.
The T-shirt features a large tonal Laurel Wreath with distressed leaves adding texture to the piece. The funnel neck jacket has a two-way zip with a reverse coil, as well as a discreet zip top pocket.
The original warm-up jacket from the courts of the ‘50s, the bomber jacket is subverted in black, and given a super clean and modern finish. Taken from the shoulders of tennis champions, onto the backs of British subcultures, it’s important that original sports features such as the elasticated ribs and cuffs are retained.
Trousers, with a cropped fit and a slightly elasticated waist feature a woven insert on the right-hand side.
Completing the collection; the fishtail parka – another important subcultural piece. Constructed
in the same sports tricot fabric, the coat is very oversized, with elasticated cuffs and the traditional fishtail drawcords to add structure for the wearer. All pieces are made in Japan and are signed off with a tonal Laurel Wreath embroidery.
