FRED PERRY x MARGARET HOWELL Collection

Two iconic British brands come together, designing a capsule collection of men’s and womenswear. Fred Perry and Margaret Howell’s collaboration celebrates the brands’ distinct aesthetics: a collision of two worlds. Made with reference to the very first tennis pieces in Fred Perry’s archive, Margaret Howell is inspired to create a monochrome collection that is familiar, yet distinctly fresh.

Based on the original M3 Fred Perry Shirt, an instantly recognisable and enduring piece of British clothing, the Fred Perry shirt has been refreshed in a fine pique that replicates the original fabric from the ‘50s. With close attention to the unique details that make it so special, Howell’s versions, one for men and one for women, has an angled placket, with lightweight fine ribbed collar and side splits finished with internal woven herringbone tape. The mother of pearl buttons has been taken from Howell’s main collection and feature throughout the collection.

The bomber jacket, another iconic piece which started life on the court, is slightly oversized yet cropped, with a dropped shoulder fine ribbed hem. It is fully lined in a jersey cotton fabric. Howell chose a casual straight-leg trouser with an internal back pocket detail, for a coin, or perhaps a locker key. Available for both men and women, they adopt the details taken from vintage Fred Perry tennis shorts. They are full length but designed to roll up over the ankle and the waistband has buttoned adjusters traditionally used on Fred Perry tennis shorts. The tennis skirt is finely pleated with a waistband adjuster, concealed side zip, and a pocket flap at the front, embroidered with the Laurel Wreath in self-colour.

Cotton canvas plimsolls complete the collection, a vital addition in the tennis story, all in perfect white with lace-up fastening. Each piece in the collection is signed off with the original bespoke Laurel Wreath branding.

Launching on 16th MAY 2019, the collection will be available in select Fred Perry and Margaret Howell shops, and a selection of exclusive retail partners.
