Good bye, Wes Craven & Thanks for all the nightmares!
As a young philosophy teacher he explored the world of Fellini and Bergmann and decided to leave his baptism youth behind him.
In the 1970’s he created the most important splatter movies: „The last house on the left“ and „The Hills have eyes“. A lot of blood, cruelty and mutants. In 1984 he made our adolescent nightmares come true: Freddy was born! „Nightmare on Elmstreet“ is one of the most important Horror movies of all times, the little song’s still classic. A lot of sequels followed, but Freddy went trashy, good Horror Movies became extinct. And suddenly, 1996 Craven came back and started a new hype: „Scream“! A murderer in Munchesk mask slaughters between a bunch of High School teens, demystifying every single horror movie cliché. „Why is she running upstairs?“ „The virgin never dies“. Along the way Drew Barrymore had a great comeback. The „Scream“-series is still one of the most successful horror-series of all times and started the „new high class horror teenage movie genre“. The completely project „Music of the heart“ brought Meryl Streep a nomination for the Oscar.
Now he died from a brain tumor in L.A.
Thank you and I hope, your inner world won’t wait for you. RIP Wes Craven. You will be missed.
