Infundibulum – Mart: Making Of by Andrew Kovalev

Andrew Kovalev is a photographer based between Paris, France and Tbilisi, Georgia. A prominent Russian costume designer Ilya Varegin’s creations pay homage to the heritage of certain historical periods, at the same time staying relevant at the end of the 2010s. This photoshoot, produced around his collection titled “Mart” (The Market) is a story of 5 wandering traders. It is inspired by an early pioneer of colour photography in Russia, Sergey Prokudin-Gorskii. The technology he used let him produce color photographs way before color film was invented. In this series, the photographer tried to recreate Prokudin-Gorskii’s techniques and succeeded.
