Jean Gritsfeldt Fall/Winter 2022/23

Ukrainian designer Jean Gritsfeldt’s show was one of the most emotional and significant of MBFW. Known for his symbiosis of texture and cuts, the designer was unable to attend MBFW in person due to the outbreak of war in Ukraine.

Due to the war in Ukraine, Ukrainian fashion designer Jean Gritsfeldt was not present during his show. However, a new statement show was presented on March 16 at 20:30 as the closing show of MERCEDES-BENZ Fashion Week.

Nevertheless, it was his wish to show in Berlin and to set an example for peace through his fashion. His collection was re-sewn at short notice with the help of the Fashion Revolution and Sustainable Fashion Matterz network. The show began with a video message from the designer describing the appalling situation in Ukraine, followed by an airman alert before the models took to the runway and revealed his vision of the future.

The Present: Currently there is war in Ukraine. Three million refugees are fleeing the country and there are thousands of destroyed buildings and broken homes. The words ‘How are you?’ are an everyday ritual, ’Alive’ is the word you need to hear.

Today is not the time to talk about fashion, but an urgent time to show our reality through fashion. We will not present the new AW22/23 collection, or new looks of the season because when you hide from bombs in shelters, subways, or basements, no one cares what you are wearing. The only thing that matters is that you are alive.

This statement collection is about feelings and emotions. These statements are our protection, our armor and our weapon. This is what we wear to win a world free from war.

The Future: Fashion is not a reflection of the present, fashion looks to the future for years to come. Today, as a designer I choose fashion tools as my weapon, today I am fighting for our tomorrow’s freedom. Hoping for freedom for Ukraine and for all the people on the planet. This is my strength and my mission. Humanity has the right to have free and safe life in their homes and on their land.
How You Can Help: You can buy an item from the new collection for a symbolic price of 1.000€. We will deliver your purchase to any city in the world.
