After releasing her beautiful album ‘Taiga’ last October, Zola Jesus has been treating us to several appearances in the media recently. Just last month we saw the release of her ultra-intense video for ‘Hunger’, and now the track release of its B-side, ‘Compass’. Her most interesting appearance has to be performing ‘Nail’ with a single trombone player on the streets of Brooklyn during one of its coldest snowstorms – not even a blizzard will stop Zola!
“Taiga is the Russian term for the boreal forest and the album was written in Vashon Island – Washington State, where she was able to find solace within nature. The album title reflects on both Danilova’s Russian ancestors as well as her life growing up in North Wisconsin. Created with the feeling of tranquillity as an essential component to the albums strength and soul. The eleven tracks on Taiga are a nod to the eccentricity that is Zola Jesus.”
