Fashion for the urban-sporty guys. In its Autumn/Winter 2017 Collection, Merrill+Forbes explores the concept of Golden Ratio. It examines how humans perceive balance and perfection in nature, design, and art, where the universal ratio becomes a source of creative inspiration.
In the golden ratio, a + b is to a as a is to b. The Golden ratio is the number found by dividing a line into two parts so that the longer part divided by the smaller part is also equal to the whole length divided by the longer part. In equation form: a/b = (a+b)/a = 1.6180339887498948420 …
Mathematical proportions are focused onto the collection and add utility to each garment. There is a balance in colors, use of mix media fabrics and in the positioning of the utility pockets. The Balance Quilt Coat is an example of the proportions used in fabrics. 1.6180339887…the numbers of the Fibonacci Code are translated into enhanced prints and heat seals on t-shirts and sweatshirts. For its fourth collection Merrill+Forbes develops harmonious lines, the core of inspiration being the most stable and functional foundation existing – the Aurea Ratio.
Merrill and Forbes was established in 1997 by Abdul Mannan. The Mannan family has been involved in the textile and ready made garments industry in South and Southeast Asia for over 40 years. Its New York operations was a result of designers seeking closer correspondence with the manufacturing side of the supply chain. In 2014, his daughter, Tajrina decided to pivot business strategy and reintroduce the brand as Merrill + Forbes, adding a critical element of the value proposition, in-house design.
Instead of manufacturing for globally recognized retailers, her passion for arts and awareness of trends led to an awakening. Science, Technology and Creativity can intersect. With a sophisticated foundation and an eye for detail, Merrill+Forbes now aspires to deliver functional high fashion for the risk takers of the future.
