One’s To Watch 2015

2014 was not the most exciting year for music. To be honest I am a bit bored of the music scene in 2014. It looks like 2015 is going to be much better. There are so many bands and artists on their way to be the next big thing. Let me introduce you to 18+, Charlotte OC, Devan DuBois, Dreamshow, Kacy Hill, Pale, Rhodes. I am sure some of these artists will enter your playlists very soon! One’s To Watch 2015

Charlotte OC

Released through Polydor Records, Charlotte OC’s ‘Strange’ EP was released this past September to widespread praise. The title track ‘Strange’ was produced by Tim Anderson (Solange, Sia) and the video was directed by Georgia Hudson (MØ, Klaxons, Swim Deep). The EP is complemented with a second track ‘Hangover’ which was recently added to the prestigious ‘BBC Radio 1 Introducing’ Playlist. Going further back, Charlotte’s EP release in late 2013 received great critical acclaim and a remix of the lead track ‘Colour My Heart’ became a YouTube smash with over 2 million plays online. Earlier this year Charlotte performed a string of UK headline tour dates and festivals such as T in the Park, Field Day and Dot to Dot. Charlotte will release her debut album in 2015 charlotteoc.comfacebook.com/CharlotteOCOfficial

18+

18+, made up of members Boy + Sis, have been operating since 2011 and have evolved through several media formats of music, performance and visuals which graphically explore identity, gender, sex and morality. The sound of 18+ has bewitched its audience; sonics which are at once over-bearing and subtle, the delicate voice of Sis spitting sweet nothings over fucked-up beats and hooks which hack their way into your subconscious and never leave. Their debut single ‘Crow’ sold-out of physical copies in unbelievable time. Already hunted by Prada to soundtrack one of their campaign videos, 18+ have been performing unique shows in art galleries across the globe. 18+ will release their debut album ‘Trust’ on 10.11.14.

Devan DuBois

Out of Alexandra, Louisiana, Devan’s debut track, ‘Long Live’ personifies his southern demeanour; smoky undertones set the pace for a track which hones the dichotomy of being at once full of grit, and of elegance. The video, directed by Chuck David Willis, explores the connections between life and surrealism, and foolishness and wisdom – a concept very much imagined by DuBois and giving insight into his enigmatic character. facebook.com/DevanDuBoisMusic

Dreamshow

Working with some of the most provocative talent New York City has produced in the last ten years, Constantine V. fronts his exciting new project Dreamshow. Born in Manhattan, New York, Constantine V. identified from an early stage with rebellious and indie art forms and has always drawn energy from chaos and his troubled youth. As a musician, Constantine’s sound has always been based in his early passion for drumming. His voice is distinctly punk but with a fresh emotional range, most notably in the anxious stretches of strong pop melody. Directing the project creatively is Matthew Williams of SHOWstudio who was previously the creative director of Kanye West and Lady Gaga.  The band also features members of TV on the Radio and Cerebral Ballzy, pulling in influences widely including The Stooges and The Undertones to Phoenix, The Libertines and The Strokes. facebook.com/dreamshxw

Kacy Hill

From Los Angeles via Phoenix, Kacy Hill has only disclosed one track to the world. A song which has the dichotomy of being at once vast and wholly intimate, ‘Experience’ is one of the first tracks which Kacy made, having found herself writing music by accident. An otherworldly vocal and futuristic production is matched by a compelling visual, inspired by ‘the intricacies of being human and our ability to think into detail and absorb meaning behind subconscious and conscious action.’ www.kacyhill.com

Pale

Pale have been one of the most ardently received and intriguing new bands of the past year, attracting the attention of the media globally with their melancholy and captivating sound. Having self-released  ‘The Come Back EP’ in September, a work comprised of four tracks produced by Adam Jaffrey and with a crucial visual element imagined by Pale themselves and artist Christopher Orlando Page, the band are play select live shows for the remainder of the year and will release more music in 2015. Pale create tracks which are at once start yet burdened with emotion, wholly modern yet channelling the honesty of classic song-writing. facebook.com/palemusic

Rhodes

Rhodes is a singular talent, a voice so striking that the stark simplicity of his songs is initially deceptive. Whether playing electric guitar or keyboards, solo or with a band, the sound totally belongs to him and completely draws you to him; he is intimate, personal ad engaging.  Currently recording his debut album, in the past 12 months he has shared a stage with Sam Smith, London Grammar, Laura Marling, Nick Mulvey, Ben Howard and Rufus Wainwright.

Rhodes releases his latest EP ‘Home’ on October 19th and will touring the UK throughout October in support including two nights at Oslo, London. facebook.com/rhodesmusicuk
