Sónar presents Sónar+D CCCB 2020, an extraordinary virtual and physical edition
This 18th and 19th of September, Sónar introduces a new format, through more channels than ever before. For the first time, Sónar will become an audiovisual and digital platform, with all its programming available online from the web via two free streaming channels and exclusive on-demand contents. In addition, the event will take over the Centre de Cultura Contemporània de Barcelona (CCCB) across both days with live activities, with limited attendance.
The live broadcast via streaming will take place on Friday 18 and Saturday 19 September, between 10:30 am and 02:00 am CET on www.sonar.es and www.sonarplusd.com. The presential activities at the CCCB in Barcelona will be held on both days between 10:30 am and 00.00 CET, while the DJ sets from the Torre d’Alta Mar can only be watched online from 12 noon to midnight CET.
The VOD contents will be available continuously from the beginning of the festival, on Friday at 10:30 am CET, and until its closure on Saturday night at 02:00 am CET.
A total of 140 artists and speakers will take part in over 70 activities including concerts, debates, DJ sets, workshops, exhibitions and new formats such as exclusive video performances produced specially for the event by numerous artists.
Sónar+D CCCB will primarily address the needs and concerns of local communities, as well as highlight the most valuable ideas for the immediate present and future. The program of activities will showcase an exceptional display of the artistic, scientific and technological talent of Barcelona and Catalonia. More than 44 local artists are featured in the main musical and audiovisual program and 32 key professionals and experts from the city and the country lead the debates, conferences and project presentations.
Throughout each day, from the Torre d’Alta Mar – with panoramic views of the city of Barcelona – there will be a selection of the most exciting DJ’s on the local scene, whose line-up has been curated in association with dublab BCN: People You May Know, BB Cream, Rumbler, Shelly, Bill Baggins, Cat Gabal, MBODJ, C.E.E. Shepherds, nueen, Anti-Drone Squad, Daniel 2000, Dani Blue, Troya Modet and Ivy Barkakati.
The programme of conferences, debates and presentations will revolve around 5 thematic areas: the main topic will be science and its trans-disciplinary approach in the fields of bioacoustics, neuroscience; biohacking and climate change. The other four areas focus on robotics and its interaction with living beings, advances in immersive technology and hyper-reality, artificial intelligence and its role in the economics of creativity and, as always at Sónar, new interfaces and tools for music and audiovisual creation.
The Centre de Cultura Contemporània de Barcelona (CCCB) and Torre d’Alta Mar are the venues and main film sets for the two channels broadcasting Sónar+D CCCB live. In addition to these, also involved are other venues in Barcelona such as the IDEAL digital arts centre, the betevé studios, the Centre d’Art Santa Mònica or Torre Barrina – in L’Hospitalet de Llobregat -, as well as eight tube stations on the Metro network and numerous artistic pieces recorded in London, Berlin, Madrid, Quito, Tallinn and Tokyo.
Nearly 40 entities from the cultural, educational and scientific fields join the program with the participation of more than 50 speakers and the presentation of various projects, such as the UPC Arts programme of the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, IDIBELL (Institut d’Investigació Biomèdica de Bellvitge), Eina/Idea, Hangar, IED (European Institute of Design), the University of Barcelona’s Master’s Degree in Sound Art, the European Union’s S+T+ARTS (STARTS) programme, the Ars Electronica festival or Factory Berlin. In addition, dozens of representatives from the city’s technological innovation companies and creative industries, such as Broomx, Futura VR, Antiloop, Sonosuite, Glassworks or Protopixel, among others.
Sónar+D CCCB 2020 is an initiative by Advanced Music and the CCCB with the collaboration of betevé, the support of de l’Institut Català de les Empreses Culturals of Department of Culture of the Generalitat de Catalunya, Barcelona City Council and the European Union’s Creative Europe programme, We Are Europe and Impost Turistic. In association with dublab BCN, Mixcloud, IDEAL and Torre d’Alta Mar. Collaborating organisations such as the Institut Ramon Llull, Catalan Arts Music the internationalization branch of the Catalan Institute of Cultural Enterprises (ICEC), L’Hospitalet de Llobregat City Council, Fundación Banco Sabadell, and TMB.
