Creativity is one of the main forces transforming reality in the 21st Century.
Today, the ideas, languages and tools coming from the new creative communities are having a deep impact beyond the limits of creative industries and the arts. From technological innovation to business to social change, all industries and sectors are being transformed by the capacity of creators to inspire and explore new worlds.
Sónar+D is an international congress exploring how creative minds are changing our present and imagining new futures, in collaboration with researchers, innovators and business leaders from all sectors and industries. Since 2013, this antidisciplinary meeting of communities and iconic names brings together in Barcelona leading artists, creative technologists, musicians, filmmakers, designers, thinkers, scientists, entrepreneurs, makers and hackers.
The programme of Sónar+D 2019 has been broadly grouped into themes that best reflect current lines of enquiry and investigation relating to our shared experience. Explore the workshops, talks, installations and presentations in each thematic area below.
Artificial Intelligence is reshaping our world, from revolutionizing information technology through to its growing importance in our daily lives and in our homes. At Sónar+D 2019 cutting edge artists, programmers, and scientists reveal the new approaches and applications of machine learning and artificial intelligence that will lead the next wave of innovation and creativity.
Music and Sound Tech. Each passing year brings new leaps and innovations in tools for music creation. Sónar+D reflects these advances; modular synthesis made portable, innovative controllers for the next generation of musicians, gear evangelists and the newest products to reach the market. Explore the programme related to Music and Sound Technology here.
Experience Design. The value we place on experiences as opposed to products has changed fundamentally. So it follows that the field of Experience Design – how we approach these experiences in terms of aesthetics and content – is possibly the defining creative language of our age.
In response to this, Sónar+D presents the artists, studios, video game programmers and designers who are redefining how we access and enjoy experiences, be these in the realm of fine art, education, music, retail or gaming.
Quantum Computing. Quantum computing has now moved from the theoretical plane to the practical. With the emergence of the first quantum computers and their increased computational power also comes the promise of great scientific and technological advances across computing, medicine, energy, finance and of course, art.
Sónar+D 2019 will explore how this technology works, and how to understand its many applications, present and future.
The Next Internet. In 2019 the network celebrates a triple anniversary: 50 years of the first computer-to-computer connection, 30 years of the creation of the WWW and 20 years of Napster, three milestones to celebrate and inflict on the next 30 years of the web.
Sónar+D 2019 will explore what the future of the network will hold through the work of researchers, journalists and hacktivists.
