The Queer Archive Festival #3! The celebration of queer culture returns to Athens May 12-22!
With a highly interesting, original, playful and daring programme of multimedia experiences, bringing together all artistic trends and expressions of today’s queer culture, The Queer Archive Festival returns for the third consecutive year, with the support of Onassis Stegi.
The great celebration of the rich and lively queer culture returns for the third consecutive year in various places (galleries, hotels, clubs, terraces, multipurpose spaces) of the Athenian centre, with the iconic Omonoia Square as its main reference point, from 12 to 22 May 2022.
This year, The Queer Archive Festival grows and extends its programme to ten days. Ten days full of art exhibitions, performances, discussions, presentations, talks, gastronomy, karaoke, workshops, drag shows, parties and much more which will be held simultaneously in different places. A festival open and accessible to all, faithful to the emergence of new talents, but also in support of established, local and international artists of the global queer art scene.
The aim of The Queer Archive Festival is to promote the ever-evolving queer art scene, which reflects contemporary queer culture, praises diversity and promotes inclusiveness. The festival is supported for the third consecutive year by the Onassis Stegi, which beliefs in culture as a meeting point for human rights and freedom of expression and of foremost the self-evident rights of the LGBTQI + community.
Sam Albatros, one of the most talked-about people of the year in the field of publishing, will present their performance “Faulty Boy” in Romantso. The performance is based on the best-selling book of the same name by Sam Albatros, which is the first openly queer novel in Greece. A hybrid performance that combines video art, photos from the family album and lip syncs. In the spotlight, a child who tries to play with whatever toys are given to them: friends, pokemon, television, electronics and the violence of the Greek countryside.
Thursday 21 May, 21:00 – 22:00 | Free entrance.
What if we start revealing ourselves around a table among strangers? Israeli artist Jason Danino Holt presents the five-hour immersive performance “Not Letting It In”, where a group of performers from Tel Aviv and Athens exchange personal confessions around a table. Together with the public, they create a temporary freedom zone, a temporary community, a shelter (or hell?), and a safe play area. Viewers can come and go during the show and the audience is welcome to share their own confessions. The performance is carried out with the support of the Israeli Embassy in Greece.
Sunday 22 May, 18:00 – 23:00 | Ticket: 5 €
