To celebrate 8 years Torstraßen Festival has prepared a one-off special edition at the Volksbühne. One day and night will bring an intersection of musical expeditions comprising 28 concerts and DJ sets as well as the Independent Label Market in the foyers. The genre-spanning line-up includes the California freak-folk icon Jessica Pratt , the Amsterdam pop artist BEA1991 , the atmospheric solo project of Berlin-based PA Hülsenbeck (formerly guitarist with Sizarr), New York surrealist duendita and avant-garde sound art by Kate NV from Moscow. In addition, there are numerous fresh discoveries from the Berlin scenes such as Tara Nome Doyle, Gazino Neukölln, Die Wände or Marshall Vincent . In addition, we are pleased to present three experimental Berlin musicians from the Mentorship Program of Amplify Berlin on one stage: Baal & Mortimer , Jana Irmert and Maya Shenfeld. Independent label market Between 12:00 and 18:00, the Torstraßen Festival, in cooperation with the London Independent Label Market, once again organizes a market with well-known as well as independent labels to be discovered. The market brings together music labels and magazines, artists and fans. You’ll have the chance to spin some records and talk directly to the label makers. Labels for pop, underground and niche music invite you to discover and buy new releases, classics and rarities. Say hello to: Baby Satan Records / Fat Cat Records / Mansion and Millions / Monkeytown Records / Morr Music / Ninja Tune / Späti Place / Glitterbeat / and many more.
The Knot The connective thread is, as always, music from Berlin, and exchanges among different music scenes, artists, and audiences. The Knot is the leitmotiv of this edition of the festival, representing entanglements, connections and commitment. It can be tightened or loosened, and it can be tied in various ways, by anyone. It encourages you to go for it, to question narratives, to make new connections – or dare to unravel it. Also, it reminds us of an urban utopia with people of different backgrounds negotiating social questions together in close exchange. Our knot brings together different sounds, scenes, people and ideas for one day, in one place.
