For Autumn 2019 Weekday will drop a new 22-piece collab with legendary denim brand Lee. The collection, which is workwear at its core, is inspired by mid 90s youth culture yet manages to steer clear of any nostalgia. Instead the two brands use Lee’s denim history and the Weekday fashion perspective to create a collaboration that feels uniquely current and made in unity.
To form the collection, the Weekday design team had the freedom to scour Lee’s 130-year-old archive looking for iconic denim pieces. While Lee stands for denim authenticity; the quality, fit and functionality as well as the recognizable details such as the triple needle stitching, the labeling and spade pockets, Weekday stands for creative upsizing and tagging of garments. Light concrete beige, indigo, and an accidental pink (think red thread that leaked in the wash) creates both a fundamental workwear look, but also a youthful carefree look.
BCI-certified cotton carpenter trousers, wide jeans, overalls, coveralls, service jackets and coats are the stand out pieces, that is as much petrol service worker as it is skate. Lee brings an American workwear sensibility that can’t be missed but it is the creative recreation that elevates the collection. Here Weekday turns the Lee Service Coat into 3 variants; the true coat as well as a split which forms a Service Jacket and a Service Skirt. Overalls were also altered by opening them up and creating a closure to make a new Overall Dress.
