A Lily of the Night Valley

A KALTBLUT exclusive. Mortimer Dyster’s “A Lily of the Night Valley” examines the human relationship with nature through a queer gaze. The work creates a reparative dialogue between queer culture and Finnish landscape imagery, while also opening new perspectives on how to see oneself as part of the Landscape.

Dyster’s gaze carries melancholy, mysticism, and poetic realism. His inspiration rises from the night and from the esoteric imagery of the collective queer unconscious. These photographs imagine a liminal space where the natural world becomes a site of freedom, softness and self-recognition.
