After The Gaze

A KALTBLUT exclusive. Photography by Kayra Atasoy. Models are Karol Müller and Borbely Maria. Styling and all fashion by Fabian Kis Juhasz. Produced by İrem Aysin Deprem. “I was drawn to collaborate with Fabian because her work resonates deeply with the themes I explore in my photography, identity, transformation, and the tension between power and vulnerability. Her distorted yet delicate approach to femininity, rooted in both horror and historical reference, aligns beautifully with my raw visual language.

There’s an emotional intensity and subversive elegance in her designs that I felt compelled to capture. Her designs speak of histories undone, of power reshaped, and this aligned effortlessly with my desire to capture what lives in the in-between: rawness, identity, and rebellion wrapped in quiet grace.”

Kayra Atasoy (b. 1998, Turkey) is a photographer whose work deeply engages with themes of identity, belonging and migration, offering a personal and documentary-driven approach. Her photography captures the experiences of individuals and communities navigating the tension between staying and leaving, often focusing on those who find themselves in in-between spaces. Her editorial style is raw and mostly shot on film, using natural colours to reflect youth culture, individuality, and the emotional texture of real life.

Atasoy’s broader body of work also explores youth culture, individuality, gender, and underrepresented voices, contributing to a universal dialogue on identity, displacement, and the home search. Kayra was selected as a member of Women Photograph, a global nonprofit initiative dedicated to amplifying the voices of women and nonbinary visual journalists worldwide. In 2025, she was recognised as one of the 30 Under 30 Women Photographers, further establishing her as an emerging voice in the global photography scene.
