A KALTBLUT exclusive still life editorial. Art Direction and Photography by Carla-Marcia Girvan. “I am a Glasgow based photographer who specialises with fashion editorial work but found a new love for still life during lockdown where restrictions prevented me from working with models.
I was inspired to do this project after hearing of the many sexual assault stories and became infuriated at the harsh reality where people were quick to blame the victim of ‘dressing too provocatively. Men are not animals, they do not have hunting instincts, they are quite capable of minding their own business and respecting someone else’s body. The audacity that comes from the excuses baffles me every time, so this series is dedicated to every single woman who was ever made to feel like their body was not their own.” @carlamarciaphoto
“This still life series features my deepest love and respect for women and fashion. Lockdown prevented me from photographing models so I began to dress fruit as if they were women and the idea of objectification
became apparent as I realised that women are treated as if they were made, prepared, and displayed for men just like the fruit I’ve photographed.
This series explores femininity, sexuality, and objectification where fruit are
dressed in predominantly feminine accessories as a substitute for female
models. They are displayed and dressed in a way to potentially raise
important conversations regarding consent and dressing provocatively for
only ourselves.
The themes and concepts of this still life series investigate the obscene reality that woman who dresses provocatively is seen as preparation for a meal. This series is meant to empower and inspire those who have suffered at the hands of men who felt they had the ability to own their bodies.
