With the release of her first EP, “1 bis 7,” Amelie demonstrates the depth of feeling, courage, and lightness imbued in German-language indie pop. The captivating cover photo by Fey Willbrandt sets the tone for an EP that seamlessly connects to her previous achievements. The lead single, “Ich hasse, wenn”, introduced Amelie to a wider audience, making waves across various playlists, including Fresh Finds GSA. This track features alongside six other songs in the EP, showcasing her delicate arrangements and engaging storytelling that explore themes of embarking on new journeys, vulnerability, and self-discovery.

The seven tracks on the EP represent seven clouds, symbolising both the quest for self and the nuances of relationships with others. Amelie likens life to a card game; some days deal favourable cards, while others align with the more challenging “Zwischen 1 und 7.” Throughout her music, her gentle voice serves as the constant thread, juxtaposed against breaking synths and distorted drums, creating a distinct sound that straddles the realms of bedroom pop and indie lightness.

The EP opens with a reflection on self-doubt and performance pressure in “Wundermädchen” (Wonder Girl). A recurring theme emerges as Amelie expresses feelings of inadequacy, manifesting in tracks like “Ich fall ihm zur Last, danach fällt er weg” (I Burden Him, Then He Vanishes) and “Ich geb’ dir nicht genug, bis du genug davon hast” (I Don’t Give You Enough Until You’ve Had Enough). With melancholic ease, “Alte Gedanken” (Old Thoughts) captures the essence of feeling unable to change, while “alte Schuhe” (Old Shoes) reflects on a first failed love.
In the final phase of the EP, Amelie walks the fine line between brutal honesty and ironically dismissive utopia in “Luftschloss” (Castle in the Air), leading to a lyrical resolution in “Immer noch hier” (Still Here). This last track acknowledges her own imperfections and egoism, encapsulating the seventh cloud that serves as her farewell to listeners.
A Fresh Perspective in German Pop
For fans of emerging talents like Fiora, Mayberg, Schmyt, Paula Hartmann, and Fyne, Amelie offers a fresh and authentic take on German-language lyrics enveloped in pop music, honest, unique, and full of emotion.
Currently studying in Hamburg, Amelie grew up on the outskirts of Leverkusen near the forest. She began her musical journey in school, first as a member of the girls’ choir and later in her high school’s band. Now settled in Hamburg’s St. Pauli district, she discovered her passion for songwriting during her biochemistry studies, crafting lyrics that resonate deeply with her audience through platforms like Spotify. Together with her producers and close friends, Valentin Roth and Yannick Coville, her lyrics are brought to life in exceptional productions. Amelie’s deep involvement in every aspect of her creative process, from music production to cover design and video editing, creates a fabulous world that invites listeners to dive in.
As a devoted fan of German music, I truly believe Amelie is an artist to watch among the vibrant landscape of new German talent. Her debut EP reflects an exciting chapter in contemporary music that is both relatable and inspiring.
