Last Friday during Berlin Art Week, we enjoyed attending an extraordinary event featuring the independent fashion brands Selva, Maria Chany, and Perlensau. Curated by the talented Daniel Yu, the showcase was a harmonious blend of avant-garde fashion and strong ethical design principles, set within the stunning walls of The Feuerle Collection. The event was remarkable and left us thoroughly impressed.
Photographer Shin Jeong Hoon captured the night’s essence splendidly, bringing the event’s unique design and overall ambience to life through his lens.
Celebrating Sustainability and Art
The occasion was a dual celebration of International World Cleanup Day and Berlin Art Week, prompting thoughtful reflection on our environmental impact. The idea behind the event was brilliant: to challenge attendees to rethink waste and envision it as part of a beautiful, enduring legacy.
Cristian Huygens, known as Selva, wowed us with his bold, brutalist approach to sustainability. His use of discarded car parts and industrial waste redefined what wearable art can be. Each piece was a statement—both in fashion and in environmental consciousness.
Maria Chany’s collection brought a refreshing, down-to-earth approach, combining bio-based materials and industrial waste to create contemporary designs that also prioritize ethical labor practices. The focus on made-to-order production further emphasized the importance of minimizing waste in the fashion industry.
Perlensau rounded out the evening with their commitment to durability and timeless design. Using long-lasting materials like vegetable-tanned leather and recyclable PVC, Perlensau’s pieces stood as a testament to the brand’s dedication to sustainable and ethical fashion.
A Community United for a Cause
The event didn’t end with the runway shows. Attendees were invited to join The Feuerle Collection’s annual cleanup of the Landwehrkanal banks. It was an inspiring sight to see the local art and culture community come together for a common cause and be rewarded with a hearty meal of Italian lasagna from Zum Heiligen Teufel.
Overall, it was an evening we won’t soon forget, celebrating the intersection of art, fashion, and sustainability. The event highlighted how independent designers are not only setting new trends but are also paving the way for a more responsible and ethical future in fashion.
