In a striking presentation at Berlin Fashion Week, IOANNES launched its Spring/Summer 2026 collection, captivating audiences with the thought-provoking theme, “Better Grow Thorns Than Thicker Skin.” This collection challenges preconceived notions of vulnerability, framing it as an essential source of strength rather than a flaw.
Drawing inspiration from the delicate interplay between protection and exposure, IOANNES encourages wearers to eschew emotional armour in favour of embracing their unique, nuanced beauty. The designer’s approach uncovers a compelling duality, where softness meets sharpness through a sophisticated fusion of sheer, flowing fabrics, figure-hugging silhouettes, and sharp tailoring, all accented with playful accessories.

At the core of this collection lies a mixture of lightweight mesh, luxurious Supima cotton, and ethereal vegetable-dyed ruffles that convey an airy elegance. However, it’s the juxtaposition of these textiles with raw hems, sculptural outerwear, and structured cuts that creates an electrifying tactile tension. Transformative pieces—those that are adjustable and purposefully unfinished speak to a ritualistic quality that underscores self-care and the ongoing journey of self-discovery.
The colour story is equally captivating, showcasing a blend of soothing neutrals, such as sand, beige, and blush, against a backdrop of richer, darker shades, including ganache brown and deep olive. Dominated by black, the collection deftly turns the focus from overt embellishment to the mastery of cut and silhouette.
Signature materials, including patina-sprayed cotton, loosely textured knits, and innovative sequin tassels, which reinterpret adornment as a form of armour, invite a fresh exploration of texture and form. Among the collection highlights are the eye-catching vegetable-dyed ruffle pieces and the distinctive “Rococo” heel, alongside a versatile sequin garment that transforms with the wearer’s journey.
Since its inception in Paris in 2019, IOANNES has deftly woven narratives of artistry, individuality, and sensuality into each piece, characterised by meticulous attention to detail. This collection embodies a harmonious balance between understated elegance and bold expression, aiming to evoke joy, not just for the designer but for the women who inhabit these garments with confidence and grace.
