Backstage at Marie Lueder F/W 25 – THE SHELL

Dystopian Drama Meets Extravagant Fantasy in a Bold New Collection. In a mesmerizing showcase at INTERVENTION III during Berlin Fashion Week, Marie Lueders has unveiled her latest sartorial offering, The Shell. This collection is a neo-romantic exploration that intertwines themes of voyeurism, surveillance, and the quest for self-expression—an audacious foray into the psychological tapestry of modern life.

Photographer Yulia Reznikov went backstage to capture the magic behind the scenes, and let’s just say we’re utterly smitten! Lueders continues her quest of deconstructing archetypal figures for the 21st century, introducing illustrious characters ranging from hooligans to decadent romantics and even the ethereal undead teenagers—we honestly can’t get enough.

Inspired by the concept of “friendly stalking” and the existential feeling of entrapment, The Shell marries historical aesthetics with an underground vibe. Picture the opulence of 19th-century tapestries, intricate curtains, and carpet prints, all reinvigorated with a pulsating, rave-like energy. This collection evokes the haunting grandeur of a dilapidated castle, promising a feast for the senses.

The Shell isn’t just a collection; it’s a transformative journey, where layers of armour are cast aside in favour of bold self-expression. With cinematic nods to Visconti’s Ludwig, this collection raises camp aesthetics to new heights, suffused with deep emotional undercurrents and a fervent love for the artistry of craftsmanship. The runway presentation itself is designed to plunge audiences into a reality where the past intertwines beautifully with a transformative future.

Imagine stepping into a runway adorned with custom carpets from Pointex, embellished with striking monochrome portraits of LUEDER’s vibrant community—part mugshots, part spectral entities. Above it all, three resplendent chandeliers by Tym Novikov refract laser light, echoing the collection’s poignant motto: an upside-down rose that symbolizes an elusive, distorted reality.

Soundscapes crafted by Simon Parris—featuring a heartbeat-like ticking clock, the buzz of drones, and an evocative, androgynous acapella—complete the surreal cinematic ambience of the event.

LUEDER’s participation in INTERVENTION III underscores Berlin’s reputation as a hotbed of artistic expression and innovative design. The collection resonates with the city’s cultural vibrancy, drawing a crowd that revels in the symbiosis of fashion, art, and social narratives.

Adding to the collection’s acclaim, LUEDER has snagged this season’s Berlin Contemporary Prize, awarded by The Senate Department for Economics, Energy and Public Enterprises / Projekt Zukunft. Fashion lovers, rejoice—this is a moment to remember in the evolution of modern style!
