We are thrilled to announce that Milk of Lime has made a remarkable return to Berlin Fashion Week following their victory in this season’s Berlin Contemporary contest. Their latest collection, titled CHIME, showcases a sentient and romantically dark interpretation of fashion that resonates deeply with us as devoted fans of the brand.
Captured beautifully by photographer Shin Jeong Hoon, the backstage experience offered a glimpse into the magic of the SS26 collection. This marks the third runway presentation by the Belgo-German design duo, Julia Ballardt and Nico Verhaegen, and they have deftly touched on dreamy, folkloristic themes with inspirations drawn from birds, botany, and the essence of coming of age in rural settings.

The collection boasts refined tailoring interlaced with raw details, prioritising elongated silhouettes and ethereal floating cuts that evoke a unique overall ambience. Adorned with fine silver bells, the models’ elegant strides resonate with a delightful chime, complemented by whimsical accessories such as daisy-chain necklaces, embroidered handbags, and knotted tops, all showcasing cascading bells.
Inspired by their Belgian roots, the design language reflects a palette of dark, mystic tones, predominantly black and silver, sprinkled with warm browns, copper accents, and soft whites and greens, set against layers of dark silks. Flower prints emerge in a vintage manner, reminiscent of cherished pieces from grandmother’s wardrobe. The collection’s signature motif, the rural poetic punk, is represented through slashed and frayed fabrics showcasing intricate botanical patterns, cut open to reveal their deeper, often dangerous narratives.
Every detail tells a story, such as the embossed bird rings that subtly weave through the collection, evoking the companionship of nature. Leather accessories take centre stage, exploring softer shapes that range from deep blacks to mossy, almost wet appearances. Minuscule accessories and draped belts bear studded anagrams of artist and poet Eva Weinkötz, accentuating the connection to craftsmanship and artistry.
The countryside punk narrative is rooted in the environment where the Milk of Lime team lives and works. Situated in the tranquil southwest of Germany, their unfiltered inspiration informs the brand’s commitment to craftsmanship, collaboration with local producers, and the use of natural materials, with a distinct focus on leather.
We wholeheartedly celebrate the innovative spirit of Milk of Lime and eagerly anticipate their future offerings that promise to blend artistry, craftsmanship, and rich narratives.
