Barbour x Flower Mountain: Where British Heritage Meets Japanese Innovation

Barbour, the quintessential British heritage and lifestyle brand, and Flower Mountain, the avant-garde Japanese sneaker brand, are collaborating for the first time in the Autumn-Winter 2024 season.

For more than 130 years, Barbour has been synonymous with the British countryside. Their iconic waxed outerwear, originally designed for fishermen and sailors, takes inspiration from archival styles that continue to shape their collections today.

Born and based in Japan, Flower Mountain is known for seamlessly blending and adapting Japanese traditions. The brand draws inspiration from materials and themes with a deep love for nature that is inextricably linked to the outdoor soul.

Despite the geographical distance, both brands are united by their distinct values, practicality, and rich heritage. This collaboration marks the beginning of an unusual partnership, where each brand reinterprets the signature features of the other in a fresh, modern language.

The capsule collection includes a unisex jacket based on Barbour’s classic Transporter Wax Jacket, presented in various bright colour combinations, and three shoe designs that mirror the jacket’s hues. Flower Mountain’s trademark dandelion symbol now adorns the classic tartan-lined jacket as embroidery, becoming part of the Barbour logo. Meanwhile, Flower Mountain’s most practical and technical shoe, the Back Country model, combines suede leather on the upper with waterproof, waxed nylon derived from the jacket.

Ian Bergin, Director of Menswear at Barbour, remarked: “We were drawn to Flower Mountain’s products for their comfort and modern approach to lightweight, practical comfort. The cork footbed feels natural, and the shoes are excellently crafted. Barbour is iconic for producing robust wax outerwear that has become legendary in design and functionality. This collaboration has been a great learning experience, merging Barbour’s craftsmanship and expertise with a sense of fun and modern relevance that Flower Mountain brings.”

The complete Barbour X Flower Mountain collaboration is available locally and online from September 9, 2024.
