Blue is the colour of the radiofonografo at the Salone del Mobile 2023

Blue is art. Blue is beauty. Blue is infinity. Blue is the colour of the radiofonografo at the Salone del Mobile 2023. The colour blue is emblematic of German Romanticism and now also of Brionvega at the Salone.

Brionvega is presenting one of many new products at the Salone del Mobile in Milan:
The latest dark blue colour version of its radiofonografo. Not only icons of the 20th century like David Bowie showed themselves with the radiofonografo, but now also those of the 21st century like Kendall Jenner. Brionvega presents all its novelties in the heart of Milan in the Via Solferino 24.

Blue is art, beauty and infinity

In ancient art, the colour blue stood for loyal, courageous and friendly characters.

Precisely because of its significance for beauty, relaxation and well-being, blue creates a relaxing atmosphere in one’s own four walls.

The colour blue stands for eternity and the constant movement of the sky, always the same and always different.

What still drives the company’s strategy today is the result of a deep admiration for the creative dedication of the 60s, which paved the way for ingenious products like the radiofonografo.

The radiofonografo is showcased for its multi-sensory value. It was originally conceived by its creators not only for the flawless reproduction of music but also to “keep company”, as shown by the playful design of a musical, anthropomorphic and smiling robot that was to become a friend that would bring people closer to technology.

The radiofonografo is a key figure for stories, curiosities and memories that over time have helped to establish its international fame, a fame that can transform it from a modern design object into a true work of contemporary art. And as such, it gains value over time, so much so that it becomes an object to be enjoyed today, but also to be passed on to future generations.

Fun Fact:

One of the greatest tributes to the radio-phonograph comes from David Bowie: not only a pop icon, singer and musician without equal but also a tireless collector of small and large works of art and unique items, especially those that have a connection to his artistic life. In a 1998 interview, Bowie told the New York Times, “Art is the one thing I’ve always wanted to own.”

The radiofonografo was his friend for life. He used it for many years and over and over again, with great love and attention.

The radiofonografo is in the MoMa Design Store catalogue since the end of 2019 and it is also available in the online MoMa Design Store.

An extraordinary person and friend who admires and appreciates Brionvega is Francis Ford Coppola. One of the greatest directors and cineastes in the history of cinema, whose work has been appreciated in ‘The Godfather’ or ‘Apocalypse Now’. He has owned a radiofonografo for many years and recently expressed all his passion and fondness for our products:

“BRIONVEGA has always fascinated me over the years. I always admired the innovative design and effective performance of their products.” Francis Ford Coppola

DESIGNER – Achille & Pier Giacomo Castiglioni

Achille (1918-2002) and Pier Giacomo (1913-1968) are the sons of the once popular Giannino Castiglioni – known as “an artist of certainty but with great common sense” (by Gianni Biondillo in www.storiemilanesi.org) – who has been active in Milan since the early 1900s with his own sculpture workshop in Porta Nuova. Here the two brothers grow up with art as something familiar and domestic and learn directly from their father the “plastic” approach to the world of design.
