There is a remarkable sense of calm running through Richard Kranzin’s latest photobook, INTERIOR. Every page invites the viewer into quiet, intimate spaces where young men appear completely at ease, free from expectation or performance. Created between 2021 and 2024, INTERIOR explores both physical and emotional spaces. Bedrooms, sofas, softly lit rooms, and familiar surroundings become more than just settings. They create an atmosphere of trust, allowing Kranzin’s subjects to relax in front of the camera and reveal themselves with remarkable honesty. To ensure the privacy of each model, most of them only agreed to be seen uncensored in the print book, which is why most of the online presentation has to be censored.
Working exclusively with analogue film, Kranzin embraces a photographic process that values patience over perfection. Rather than chasing flawless digital images, he welcomes the unpredictability of film, where subtle imperfections, unexpected textures, and the slower pace of shooting all contribute to the character of each photograph. That handcrafted approach gives INTERIOR a warmth and authenticity that perfectly matches its subject matter.
One of the book’s most notable developments is the introduction of analogue colour photography alongside Kranzin’s signature black-and-white work. The muted colour images add another emotional layer to the series, enhancing the sense of familiarity, nostalgia, and quiet intimacy that runs throughout the book without overshadowing the timeless elegance of his monochrome portraits.
