BRIONVEGA presents the new edition in black of totem

BRIONVEGA Art Products Company has presented Mario Bellini’s totem in black lacquer finish at Milan Design Week. A sculptural object, whose geometric perfection is enhanced by the identity strength and elegance of the new black finish.

The totem, designed by Mario Bellini in 1971, originates from a perfect cubic shape, which when it opens reveals a Hi-Fi system. A minimalist decorative object that, when opening its wings, transforms and becomes the focus of unique moments, experienced with emotion, together with family and friends.

Mobility and dynamism characterise the totem, thanks to the hidden wheels, the rotation of the speakers, and the possibility of distancing the loudspeakers from the central body. The totem’s monolithic shape makes it a timeless design object, not subject to the trends of the moment, and which easily fits into very different environments. The fascination with this object is the reason for its worldwide curiosity and admiration. The timeless design, combined with a high sound quality, transforms every occasion when using the totem into a moment of contemplation, a regenerating and exclusive experience.

On the occasion of Fuorisalone 2023, the totem was presented in a black lacquered finish, complementing the white finish currently in the collection. The strong identity of this sculptural form is enhanced by the presentation of the two colours that are opposites by nature.

Bellini’s sculptural intuition has allowed the totem to have an identity as an object of art rather than design, to be contemporary and appealing from its birth to the present day, always remaining faithful to the original design, naturally updated with the best technology.

Each totem is produced entirely by hand, in Italy, following an exclusive craftsmanship process, the result of decades of experience, which combines the use of latest-generation technological machines with the expertise of passionate professionals, guardians of historical handicraft traditions.

The totem, like the other Brionvega Art Products, is designed to become an object to which special affection is directed, to be kept and then to be passed on to the next generation.
Indeed, one of the most effective approaches to the issue of sustainability is to make products that last a lifetime, and even longer.

Mario Bellini had the intuition to combine sculpture and technology in the totem, transforming it into an iconic and special object, exhibited in the world’s most important museums, starting with the MoMA in New York. Mario Bellini was born in Milan in 1935. He is an architect, designer and critic. He has created world-famous products for the best Italian and international companies, and the 8 Compassi d’Oro he has won are undeniable proof of this. Mario Bellini has actively participated in the development of industrial design culture in Italy and around the world.

“Music is an immaterial message and has no visible form. Totem conceals and encloses in the ideal purity of a cube (mobile on invisible wheels) its “musical vocation” that is revealed and diffused with the touch of our hands, which open it to activate all its sound reproduction potential.” Mario Bellini, 26/06/2021
