Over the past few months, ceno2, a new creative residency at London’s Plant Room in Hackney Wick has been taking shape. This innovative project bridges electronic music, performance art, and pole dance, offering a unique platform to explore the artistic and healing potential of pole dance. The residency focuses on the pole as a tool for bodily liberation, merging traditional techniques with fresh, experimental approaches. Through this project, pole dance is positioned not only as an athletic practice but also as a rich and expressive art form, deserving of greater recognition within the cultural landscape.
ceno2 aims to go beyond conventional pole performances by incorporating elements of performance art, costume design, makeup artistry, and spatial design. The result is an immersive experience challenging both performers and audiences to engage more deeply with the presented themes. By blending multiple disciplines, the residency aims to showcase the pole as more than just a dance form- it becomes a medium for storytelling, expression, and emotional depth.

The inaugural edition of ceno2 will present “Hygra,” a commissioned performance by Mexican multidisciplinary artist and movement director Maya Luna, known for her background in contemporary dance and pole. Luna’s work draws from her Mayan heritage and her experience within stripper culture, creating a performance that explores vulnerability and bodily expression. She will be joined by Kenyan artist A.T. Together, their performance aims to delve into the physicality of surrender, revealing the liberating and transformative power of movement. Accompanying the performance is a musical score by the Ukrainian electronic music producer, Nastya Vogan, followed by DJ sets by Basic Chanel and FYI Robyn.
